Much better this year. A lot of folks I know but some I didn't. A lot of positive response...one sale from a new person, one sale from a return buyer of mine. I would rate it very good. - map# 21

Kathy Anderson’s School for Young Artists - 45 visitors
Fifteen people signed our book. Each signature represents a family or a group of people. Most participated in our open studio. (Our students demonstrated what happens here and the children who were visiting took their lead and got involved.) Others were curious about what goes on here having seen our strange sign for years.
We made excellent contacts. Five new students signed up already and a number of others have said they are going to after soccer season.
- Did you make any sales? In our case sales means signing up new students. The answer is yes.
Many people mentioned that it was too bad that the Garlic Festival
was the same weekend. I know that you had done a survey to determine what the Tour would be competing with. I wonder how and where to get information about the dates for local events.
Also, the flyers in the packet that I picked up when I came in to help on Thursday never got used. I might have used them if I had received them earlier. - map# 29

Olof Wahlund - 45 visitors
We made some good contacts with people who are "interested" in buying Olof's work. The people who were interested had already purchased work earlier in the day from other artists and said they would be in touch or come back next year.
No official sales yet.
I would rate the overall experience as "good" and when mixed with the incredible weather upgrade that rating to "excellent".
Some of the more interesting visitors came specifically because of the sample they saw on the Westwood window. Maybe an earlier preview of the artists participating in the studio tour would stimulate more attendance. Maybe an announcement that there will be a preview of these artists put up two weeks prior to the actual tour.
Anyway, we had a lot of interesting conversations and met a lot of very nice people and will continue to participate in the event. - map# 33

Made some good contacts. I think I found a new studio space based on a new contact, too Plus, just being involved in the tour brought attention to my work from people who know me as a bartender and not as an artist.
Two *significant* sales, plus interest in a piece in progress.
Tour was Good. I would like to say Excellent, except that the majority of people who came to my studio did so because I, or Jenny Nelson -my neighbor, had invited them and gave them fliers that we'd made. It would have been nice to receive more visitors who I didn't know!
To make next year better: Individual artist's names and tour info was difficult to read on small ads. Maybe they could be larger. Feature articles in the Chronogram, for example, might help. It might be too costly, but maybe a large van could be used to transport people to studios not located in town. A possibility could be a "morning loop" and an "afternoon loop" hitting several studios in a set time frame. I spoke w/ artists in town who had massive numbers of people through their studios, while some of us didn't see as much visitation.
Also, and this is a weird one, some people didn't seem to get the concept. Not exactly sure where they got confused, but a lot of people asked me where my work would be. My reply was, "In my studio - it's an *open studio* tour." I think maybe it was the "tour" part that people got confused by. Not exactly sure how that could be any clearer.
Overall, participating in this event was a great experience - thank you for all of your hard work and planning! I look forward to being involved again next year. It required a lot of preparation, but was fun and really made me feel like a part of the community. - map# 22

Judith W. Chase - 26 visitors
- How many visitors did you have?
12 on Saturday and 14 on Sunday, nicely spread through the days

Made a couple of contacts, possibility of a commission, maybe a student
Made about $100 in sales.
Good, but also excellent because I made myself clean out the clutter and I really like the "new" look so much better
To make next year even better: I think this date, end of September, is a good one. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Once again, I suggest a single color, yellow, for the balloons that ties in with the ad. And I would like to see us gather to talk about the ad if there are others who feel it could be improved. I put a Studio Tour placard with an arrow on my mail box - another piece that could tie in with the ad for the group. Scheduling a wrap-up meeting a week or so after the weekend could do a lot for group identity and enthusiasm. Arranging the directions on the back of the map keyed to the numbered location, rather than alphabetical by first name, seems less confusing. (One couple didn't realize that the directions were on the back!) For those who might want to participate perhaps there could be "the" ad with smaller individual ones surrounding it - bigger impact??? - map# 23

The response to Fred's work was positive. We both had a sale
To make next years event better :
Signage that unites the cooperative event. That is, a distinct logo, or possible a red border around the sign with either names or numbers inside. something very bold. Oh meant to tell you loved Milton Glassers cartoon that you use for the Studio Tour. Possible the bottom of sign would could replicate the bottom logo of your sign.
1. The balloons were weak. I had helium left from our opening. however as we drove by some of the other artists on way to our studio the balloons were flopping Possible if you set up a station in the morning and let artists pick up helium
filled balloons.
2. Signs should be a permanent part of the event. very distinct
identifying participants. Used annually.
3. The downtown promo was weak. Here you are next to the busiest place in town Bread Alone and you could not tell that there was a special event happening From the street the images on the windows could easily be mistaken for houses for sale. Especially for those not looking for homes. They certainly would not look twice. See my photo.
4. As a Chamber sponsored event it should have had more presence.
5. As I assisted the day before I had access to maps to other artists and found quite a few people who happen to stop by so I was able to assist in this small way. - map# 12

The tour was great for me! It got off to a slow start until I put my map number next to my balloons. Until then, some people told me that they kept looking for my place until they found it. I live behind a doctor's office.
I had three sales of 2 small and 1 large print. Hopefully, some of my visitors will return in a week or two.
I made two great contacts. I helped one of my clients to get her work framed and in exchange, she is going to work on my website. I work to get as much exposure as possible, far beyond the confines of Woodstock, New York. My other contact works for a famous interior design company in New York. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. About every100 rejections something really great happens.
How to make the tour better? That's one that I'm going to think about and answer at a later date. - map# 28a

Make it free like Saugerties Artists Tour with a Brochure.
Not schedule it for the same weekend as the Garlic Festival in Saugerties.
Not make people buy the map Lots of complaints. - map# 28

Mary Anna Goetz - 15 visitors
I would say the tour went well, I didn't really expect to sell any artwork since my paintings are expensive. But I did sell some catalogues and one person expressed an interest in studying with me. My Central Park exhibit was hanging here in the gallery and the tour provided an opportunity for more people to see it. All in all it was pleasant and usual and everyone who came was very nice and complimentary. - map# 25

I think I made some good contacts, I thought that last year too.
Sold $ 220.
To make next year better: Maybe a good article in the Woodstock Times and the Freedman. I was sorprised to see a small article about 1 single artist in the Woodstock Times and a mention to his participation in the Studio Tour inside the article. Many people were sorprised that our Newspapers do not write an article that talks about every artist with the same appreciation and about the cooperation of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce to create this Studio Arts. Maybe if someone talks personally to the newspaper writers about the possibility to create the proper enviroment for the Studio Tours and specially for what the art experience trully is individually and in a community. The media in other cities and towns are great example of being able to respond with really care and heart towards the artist Studio Tours. I know that you Larry work wonders for all of us in this tour and in the Summer Show in rock city road. I am so gratefull for this and will continue participating in all activities. Thank you Larry. I love being part of our community. I wish to thank Babs, she has been wonder-filled. I was not able to call her back for my "writting", as her message asked. ( was sick-but did not tell her ) and Babs went ahead and did a beautifull writting for my "blurb" without waiting for my answer. Thank you Babs that meant so much to me, you really gave more that expected, and thank you so much for delivering the envelope with the flyers, that was amazing too and much needed. So I am just writting this because I know many artist do not participate in the Studio Tours and it will be good if everyone does. Thank you so much Larry, and Babs, and all the ones that help so much in making this community event, maybe next year I would be able to give some volunteer
time.

Meg Oliver - 12 visitors
Hopefully made some good contacts
Several sales on Sunday (almost everyone who stopped by)
Worth doing. But it would have been nice to have a fairly steady stream both days.
I will put out signs around the area so I am easy to find. Also perhaps the same weekend as the Garlic Festival is not the best idea. - map# 19

---------------
Julia Santos Solomon - 10 visitors
Very poor sales....of the 20 maybe 7-8 people came through the studio tour....the rest were folks I had invited on my own. Many people called and emailed to tell me that they attended the garlic festival instead. Next year we should not compete against that event....I had one sale to a neighbor.
Overall the organization and promotion of the event was considerably better.
Thanks for your efforts in that regard. - map# 27

Made one sale. Two couples showed interest and promised to come back.
Do not schedule the tour at the same time as the Film Festival. - map# 18

Jim C. (James Cornwell) - 1 visitors
Made one good contact.
Better publicity, have TV media and local art writers visit EACH site, have an "art trolley" carry people from studio to studio.
At least I cleaned up my studio and completed a few new works. This is a GREAT motivator for getting things done. And this is half of why I like to do this sort of thing. - map# 11
